Cedar Groups

Cedar Group sessions take place over a 12 week period with separate groups for children and their mothers running in parallel.

Usually, a Cedar Group meets weekly for around an hour and a half. The group facilitators introduce the week’s theme and try to create an atmosphere that gives those taking part a chance to explore the topics while at the same time allowing them the chance to talk in confidence about their feelings and share experiences.

A Cedar Group also runs in parallel for mothers. While mothers have said that they have got a great deal out of sharing their experiences with others who have been through similar experiences, as well as being supported, the focus of the group is helping and supporting their children. The mothers’ group is held before the children’s group, and in this way they are aware of what will be explored in that week’s children’s group so that they can support their child’s learning week by week.

“Just that I’m so glad I stuck with it and braved talking about some of my personal feelings and problems”
